The 9th China-ASEAN Wood Culture Event

2018 the 9th China-ASEAN Wood Culture Event was carried out on November 16 at International Convention and Exhibition Center of Nanning, Guangxi, China.

The event was hosted by International Wood Culture Society and Chinese National Forest Products Industry Association, and supported by Guangxi University, the Ming and Qing Dynasties Wood Carving Museum of Beihai, YI+Workshop, Nanjing Harvey and World Wood Day Foundation.

As one of the corresponding regional events of 2018 World Wood Day, the activity was focusing on the interactive experience of public with the demonstrators. Programs includes Chinese traditional wooden mortise and tenon joinery, wood carving, calligraphy writing-brush making, chopsticks making, woodturning demonstration, and creative small wooden objects making.

With the theme LIFE , the event attracted a large audience. Some were standing in front of the show watching, some were trying a bit with a happy smile afterwards. The program "wooden mortise and tenon joinery" is the most popular one among all. Mortise-tenon joinery is one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture and furniture. Mr. Wang Muqun, as a volunteer of the program is a postgraduate student from Guangxi university. He gave the audience a very good demonstration and explanation. People, old and young, were sitting around the table amazed themselves by disconnecting and assembling the different structures. Even small children were interested in playing with the structural toys.

Woodturning program is also attractive to the public. The small spinning tops made the adults bring back their childhood memories and teach their children how to play. Some kids even waited there to get a top of their own.

This is the ninth time for International Wood Culture Society being invited as part of the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) Timber and Wood Product Exhibition. Thanks to all demonstrators and co-organizers. Without their support and hard work, the event could not come true.
