2019 World Wood Day Regional Event- Workshop in Slovakia

Following the main event of the "2019 World Wood Day" in Austria on March 19-24, the Slovakia regional event was successfully held on March 27th in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The event highlights wood as an eco-friendly and renewable biomaterial. It showcased Slovak folk art related to wood, together with representative Chinese intangible wood cultural heritage items. It is hoped this wood workshop event will help promote cultural exchange between China and Slovakia, and boost confidence of art and craft artists by sharing their knowledge, experience and passions.

The workshop was kicked off with a melodious of Gajda playing. At the brief opening ceremony, Ms. Dana Kľučárová, Director of the Centre for Folk Art Production, and Ms. Su Jinling, Secretary-General of the International Wood Culture Society delivered their welcome speeches to participants.

Woodcarving

Slovak female woodcarver Miriam Bajkai and Chinese woodcarving masters Wang Guohua and Xia Xilin performed their exquisite woodcarving skills. The woodcarving pieces they exhibited were loved by local audiences.

Mr. Zou Jianning and Mr. Zou Gensheng, the Chinses intangible cultural heritage inheritors demonstrated the traditional wooden movable type and printing skill. Children Woodworking

The children woodworking class supported by the Cool Tool, trains the hands-on ability of the basic woodworking knowledge and technique to children. The International Wood Culture Society also brought modern Chinese chopsticks making machine for audiences getting closer to Chinese cultural elements and enjoying the craftsman's joy.
