International Woodcarving Show 2019 - Simao Wiliamo (Mozambique)

08 Nov, 2019

For my people, the mask symbolizes the moment of joy, but also the center that evokes social criticism.  With the mask on face, the critical singers in African communities, challenges society with its reflection and spread the message culturally.  We need to look back, ancestral medias are important for social transformation. When you watch Mapiko dance, you return home with songs engraved in your mind.  The magic of the mask is, not only in the thought of who was present at the party, the song is transported in its genuine format to spread to those who were not at the party.  Here is the contagious mask to evoke social change in various circumstances.
