Regional Event in India

The World Wood Day regional event in India jointly sponsored by IWCS and WWDF together with Indian Artist groups were planned to be held on March 21. Due to the COVID-19, it is impossible to invite school pupils and audience to join the interactive event and enjoy the art and craft of wood.

One of the main local partners, Mr. Mohit Jangid is the fourth generation of his family engaged in wood carving in Jaipur, India. Their family’s unique sandalwood miniature carving technique has won twice the national award.

After discussing with his family members, they decided to make the celebration by themselves. They went to a local garden planting trees as planned, helped the publicity of folk musical instrument of Ravan Hatta, show their traditional miniature carving and displayed exquisite wood carving works.

They enjoyed to promote the sustainable development concept of wood that is good and is an eco-friendly renewable biomaterial and the theme Legacy by celebrating World Wood Day. Their stories were reported by the local news media in India.
