Wood Design
Wood Design is an amalgamation of many different disciplines, all centered around a common starting point: wood and forest products. Led by Wendy Maruyama, the team consists of the practitioners in furniture-making and installation/sculpture design, the members all use wood as a problem solving tool, exploring the possibilities of utilizing it in the unique and more expressive ways. While presenting the varied styles of works, the Wood Design team preserves the traditional woodworking techniques and the classic formats as a communication device, passing the significance of the legacy in wood to the audience from different perspectives. By taking the contemporary route for seeking the potential of the timeless material, the team expresses and addresses a variety of concerns in culture and in nature that reflects on the annual theme.
