Welcome to GeoTree, the Collaboration Project for World Wood Day 2021. We invite you to join us, from wherever you are in the world, in a celebration of wood, creativity and connection.
The Collaboration has been a part of World Wood Day since 2014, in China. Under normal circumstances, a group of 20 makers come together for two weeks to design and build a sculptural installation. These Collaborations are about people, communication and the shared experience. They are about a diverse group coming together through the shared languages of creativity and wood.
As World Wood Day has once again been put on hold due to coronavirus, we have been challenged to create a new type of Collaboration. Five participants from previous projects came together virtually, and attempted to create a project that encapsulates the spirit of previous Collaborations but also reflects our collective experience over the past year. In keeping with the WWD theme we wanted to create a low carbon impact project that anyone, anywhere can participate in.
The result is GeoTree.
A GeoTree is a simple geometric tree form, made from a cube and a prism. You will collaborate with us by taking our collective design and making it your own. Your GeoTree will act as a canvas for your creativity and personal expression. You can carve, paint or make any sort of artistic intervention to the standard form to make it unique.
Follow the instructions below to make your own GeoTree. Make it any size, make it on your own or in collaboration with others, and make it using recycled or reclaimed materials, where possible.
Share your finished project with us on Instagram @WWDGeoTree
using the hashtags #WWDGeoTree #WorldWoodDay #collaboration, tagging where you are in the world. If you’d like to, we’d love to see a photo of you, and hear about your making process.
At this time of separation we want to connect as many people as possible through this global collaboration.
Join us and be a part of WWD 2021.
We look forward to seeing what you create.
