The World Wood Day 2021 Tree Planting Event in Tokyo, Japan, was held on Friday, 19 March at the Tanashi Forest, Graduate School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the University of Tokyo. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event scale was downsized and the participants were limited to the members of Japan Wood Culture Society (JWCS) and delegates of Tanashi Forest.  The event started with the welcome greetings made by the JWCS Representative Director, Prof. Masataka Matsuo, and followed by the performance of Japanese musical instruments which represented the wood culture, including  Shakuhachi (Five-holed vertical bamboo flute) performed by Mr. Junya Okochi and Hyoshigi (Wooden clappers) performed by Prof. Masataka Matsuo. The opening remarks were then delivered by the Emeritus Professor, Hirokazu Yamamoto and the Director of Tanashi Forest, Professor Seiji Ishibashi, both of the University of Tokyo.  The guidance of tree planting for the above six species onsite was made by Dr. Naoki Kurita and carefully followed by the participants. This meaningful event was accomplished with the full support of the Tanashi Forest under the clear sky on a sunny day.
