Wood Education

This event took place before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since last attending in 2012, IWCS had the chance to once again attend as well as film the 20th All Japan Junior High School Woodworking Competition & World Wood Day 2020 Memorial Contest held at the Umejima Elementary School on January 25th, which included the 20th National Junior High School Education Fair for Creative Monodzukuri (Manufacturing). 16 students who were the regional contest winners have to finish their designed projects within 4 hours and present their work to the judges and audience. The grand award ceremony took place at the Art Center of Tokyo on January 26th and the President's Award of World Wood Day Foundation (WWDF) was presented by the Director of WWDF and IWCS. The friendships equaled the same enthusiasm for woodworking were the most important conclusion of the competition.

Wood plays a prominent role in our daily life and in a sustainable future. It is our duty to teach the public and younger generation responsible uses of wood. Japan is a country with rich and unique experience in wood education and wood culture promotion. Therefore, colorful and innovative activities will be brought to the 2020 World Wood Day Wood Education program that will be for adults and children. The Children's Program not only aims to impart knowledge to children but more importantly to sparkle the love and interest of wood in their young hearts. First-hand experiences across different WWD programs will help us pass on our passion towards wood to them and let the children witness, participate and enjoy the moments they spent with wood that will nurture their sense of respect and responsibility to wood, forest and nature.
